Northern lights visible in Connecticut Thursday night

Connecticut residents in multiple towns spotted the aurora, which resulted from a severe solar storm.

CONNECTICUT, USA — Connecticut residents spotted northern lights Thursday evening, resulting from a severe solar storm.

According to FOX61 Meteorologist Rachel Frank, Thursday's visibility of the aurora borealis is a product of plasma and charged particles launched from the Sun into the Earth's atmosphere, resulting from a geomagnetic storm.

The aurora could best be seen in places away from city lights and with a view of the northern horizon. Long-exposure cameras also helped capture the lights.
