HARTFORD, Conn. — Ida's impacts have been catastrophic in parts of Louisiana and Mississippi, with destructive winds, torrential rains, and storm surge.

While we are not anticipating anything remotely close to that in Connecticut, heavy rain is becoming more likely, especially Thursday morning.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the entire state from late Wednesday into Thursday with 3"-6" of rain possible. We've seen an abundance of rain this summer. The ground is already saturated and rivers and streams are running high. There will be a narrow band of locally higher amounts but it's unclear where that will set up. Is it over Connecticut or does it stay just to the south? Whoever gets 6"+, has a risk for more significant flooding. Hopefully that doesn't include us but if so it would be isolated.

Timing: Off and on rain is likely during the day Wednesday with the chance for locally heavy downpours/thunder. We are not anticipating a flash flood threat during the day.  The heaviest rain will be Wednesday night (after the evening commute) into daybreak on Thursday.  1"+ per hour rainfall rates are possible. The rain will taper off through the morning and the sun could come out by Thursday afternoon! Even though the heaviest rain ends around daybreak, the morning commute could still be rough with some flooded streets. Here's a video of the future radar below.

Additional impacts: There may be a period of gusty winds on Thursday morning towards the tail end of this storm. But we're not expecting major outages with this storm.

There is a low risk for a brief weak tornado. That risk is higher to the south (especially around the Mid-Atlantic). Even so we'll be keeping an eye on the radar just in case.

Due to the direction of the wind (mainly from the north/northeast), storm surge and coastal flooding won't be issues.
