Flash flooding from heavy downpours possible as storms roll through Connecticut

The state can expect heavy rain and possible flash flooding as the downpours move slowly overnight and into Tuesday evening.

HARTFORD, Conn. — The whole state is under a Flood Watch through Tuesday as storms roll through southern New England.

Fairfield County was briefly under a Tornado Warning at 4 p.m. Monday as the storm moved its way into the state. The warning is now canceled.

The state can expect heavy rain and possible flash flooding as the downpours continue into Tuesday evening.

With the ongoing drought, the rain is much-needed, but all of the rain is a lot for the dry ground to handle in a short period of time.

A widespread 1" to 3" of rain is expected, but in the torrential downpours, a few places could see higher amounts of up to 5" to 7", according to FOX61 meteorologists. This is why flash flooding is a concern.
