CONNECTICUT, USA — The winter's first N'oreaster closed a 12-mile stretch of I-84 in Eastern Connecticut for well over an hour on Saturday.
Shortly after 4:30, I-84 was closed from the Massachusetts line to Exit 70 (Route 32) in Willington due to multiple tractor-trailer crashes. Around 6:15, with the fast-moving storm exiting the state, police said the highway had been reopened.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation reported other troubles on I-84 in later afternoon: another tractor-trailer crash, this one westbound in Manchester between exits 64 and 63.
In Stafford, Route 319 was shut down at Route 32 because of a tree down on some wires.
In Norwich, Route 2 Eastbound was restricted as of 5 p.m. due to a 2-vehicle crash near exit 28.
And in Woodstock Route 197 was closed at Prospect Street for a reported tree down on wires.
Police are urging everyone to not travel unless they really need to, to exercise caution and limit distractions.
