True to its name, nor'easter hits northeastern corner hardest

The first snowstorm of the winter season varied throughout the day and from town-to-town.

BOLTON, Conn. — The state’s first nor'easter of the winter season has impacted different parts of the state in a myriad of ways, with some areas seeing falling rain while others saw blankets with snow

FOX61 caught up with Andrew Pollansky who says he drove from Coventry to Bolton clearing the roadways and says it's been a hit or miss.

Pollansky said, "Out towards Windham, I got a couple of calls I got out there, but out towards Stafford out like that like two hours ago it was like 4 inches out on the ground out there." Stafford ended up recording about 9 inches before the storm's end.

The snow caused quite the mess in the northeastern part of Connecticut.

Eversource was seen working in Woodstock as a crew were dispatched to fix thousands of outages, but Pollansky advised people in areas where there was a heavy snow accumulation to be careful and drive defensively because he's already seen what happens if people don't.

"There was a lot of people sliding off the roads, a lot of trees down, and everything and sticking pulling all of the branches down so there was a lot of stuff on the roads... a lot of the cars couldn't make it around,” said Pollansky.

FOX61 noted while driving around crews noticed that it is true that conditions varied from area to area with one part of the state wet and slushy but in other parts there were just mounds of snow.

It was for that reason why some people say it was hard to prepare for the day and others say it's just typical New England.

Julie Delvalle said, "Some people are phased by it, but I'm pretty much used to it... the weather today doesn't know if it wants to rain or snow."

William Robles was near Delvalle when FOX61 was interviewing and agreed. He said, "You have to be prepared because the weather can change on you real fast, real fast."

Back 20-minutes down the road in Bolton said he is hoping that the state's first Nor'easter isn't an example for the rest of the winter season.

Pollansky said, "I kind of feel like we are going to get some decent amount of snow this year since we haven't in the past couple so I would expect we are going to get some we'll she how she goes."
