BRISTOL, Conn. — About 3,000 Bristol residents are without power as of 9:00 pm Tuesday night as crews work to repair downed power lines, according to Eversource. FOX61 found several downed trees in and around Federal Hill Green. Down the road, tree limbs fell onto a power line.
“I was rolling up the window from my van and it just seemed like straight-line wind and the wife was yelling for me to come inside and then some branches shot across our house, the lights were flickering,” Bristol resident Jake Slodzinski said. He tells FOX61 his family’s power went out where they live near the hospital.
Neighbors said this storm came through fast and powerful, taking out this massive tree on Queen Street, which is just one of several areas seeing damage across Bristol.
Sierra Lauzon and her brother Alex were stunned to see all the damage but also fascinated to watch the storm brewing up above.
“It happened so quick. I mean, at first, it was pouring and now it’s a nice day out,” Alex said.
“It was down pouring, we couldn’t see. We had to pull over and we watched all the lighting strikes and everything, which was super cool, and then it finally started slowing down, and then we had to stop because there were trees in the road,” Sierra said.
Crews are cleaning up the damage and taking care of trees that came crashing onto power lines.
Eversource said they will be working through the night & into tomorrow to restore customers as soon as they are able.
