HARTFORD, Conn. — Get ready for the chance for powerful storms this afternoon.
Around 1 pm the National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the state until 8 pm.

With the heat and humidity in place, we have the chance for afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Some of these could be severe. The most likely window will be 4 PM - 8 PM. The primary threat will be damaging winds. There is a low (but not zero) threat for large hail or a tornado.
Frequent lightning also may be a concern as well as localized flooding.
Also an issue today, heat advisories are in effect for parts of Connecticut as well as an Air Quality Alert.
Then we do it all over again for Wednesday. Heat, humidity, afternoon storm chances.
