  • Route 66 in Columbia reopens after two accidents

    COLUMBIA-State Police have reopened Sunday Route 66 in Columbia just after 1 p.m after two separate accidents shut it down. A car crashed into a pole on West Street near Route 66.  Life Star was called in to transport Susan Shea, 53, of Portland to the hospital for that accident. The other accident happened near Pine Street.  No one was injured in that accident.  

  • New England’s largest Veteran Parade held in Hartford

    HARTFORD – The largest Veteran’s Day Parade in New England took place Sunday in downtown Hartford. Parade officials expected close to 3,000 marchers from all over the state to march. At 11:30 a.m. there was a wreath-laying ceremony at Sailors Memorial Arch. There was also be a military flyover after the moment of silence at 1:30 p.m., the first military flyover since 2008.   • Crews battle garage fire

    NEW HAVEN-Firefighters responded to an overnight garage fire at 75 Laura Street. Fire officials said the call came in  around 12:30 a.m. There were no cars inside at the time. No one was injured.

  • Police identify man shot, killed on South Prospect Street in Hartford

    HARTFORD — Police are investigating Tuesday morning an overnight homicide in Hartford. A 32-year-old victim was shot just before midnight and he was pronounced dead at 12:34 a.m. Tuesday morning. Police identify the victim as William Prieto, 32, of Hartford. Multiple 911 calls were made just before midnight Monday night at the Sheldon Oaks affordable housing complex on South Prospect Street.     6-year-old killed in accident on Route 8 in Shelton

    SHELTON — Police are investigating a fatal crash on Route 8 near exit 12 in Shelton that happened Tuesday afternoon. Police said two cars slowed down for traffic which then caused a third car to crash into the back of them. The vehicle then went down an embankment and ejected a 6-year-old from the car.   • Pedestrian dies after being struck on I-84 West in Southington, ties up morning commute

    SOUTHINGTON-  Several lanes were shut down on I-84 westbound near exit 32 after a pedestrian accident that involved a tractor trailer. State Police say the pedestrian has died. The victim has been identified as Anthony Toscano, 31, of Planville. Police had to open and and close various lanes while they investigated the crash. All lanes were closed around 5 a.m. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact Trooper Krynski at Troop H at 860-534-1000.

  • Police investigate burglary at Newington AT&T

    NEWINGTON- Police are investigating an overnight burglary at the AT&T store on the Berlin Turnpike in Newington. The burglary happened around 3:45 a.m. Several cell phones and tablets were taken from display counters. Police say they found one of the suspects outside the store almost immediately. Using a Wethersfield K-9 officer, a search was conducted and the second suspect was found hiding in the ceiling.   • Motorcyclist killed in Meriden crash

    MERIDEN- Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident on River Road. Police were called to the area of 34 River Road around 1:30 a.m. A driver hit a tree and was not wearing a helmet at the time. Police said the motorcyclists had serious injuries, and later died. River Road was shut down for a few hours but has since reopened. The accident is under investigation. Check back for more details.  

  • Two injured in Southbury condo fire

    SOUTHBURY — Firefighters battled a large fire an condo complex early Thursday morning. Fire officials said the fire started in one of the units and kept spreading to other units. Mutual aid was requested from fire departments in Rox Wood, Oxford and Sandy Hook. Residents from five units  had to be evacuated. Two people were taken to Waterbury Hospital for injuries and have been treated and released.   • 60 firefighters battle Hartford apartment fire, 3 injured

    HARTFORD-Several fire departments responded to massive apartment fire late Monday night. The fire started in a multi-unit apartment complex above the Grab and Go Convenience store on the corner of Park Street and Broad Street. Firefighters were able to get all of the residents out of the building. A few residents were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation and three firefighters were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
