Trump coming to hartford

HARTFORD -- Connecticut's Capital City is preparing for thousands as Donald Trump makes a brief stop Friday night in an effort to court Connecticut delegates.

Meanwhile, Hartford Police say they've been planning for the event since Monday and are prepared.

"Our concern is to make it a safe event for everybody that's there as well as having the least amount of impact on the city that this event could possibly have," said Brian Foley, Deputy Chief of the Hartford Police Department. "We're confident that we'll have all the resources necessary. Our intelligence and real time crime scene analysts are looking at previous events and best practices and potential for what has happened before to happen here in Hartford and obviously we're including that in our planning structure."

Local employers such as Travelers have advised employees to try and telecommute or leave early from Hartford ahead of the rally.

Hartford Police are coordinating with CT State Police and the U.S. Secret Service for security at the event.

The doors to the Connecticut Convention Center open at 4 p.m. Friday evening, Trump is scheduled to speak for an hour at 7 p.m.

And while protests are expected, police are just asking the public to remain civil and respect everyone's rights. "Be respectful to our city and be respectful to other people's humanity and their rights and that's all we ask. This is our city, our community," said Foley. "If you're coming into Hartford, please be respectful and be nice to our city."
