WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. — The artwork is abundant at Bradley International Airport, which announced on Tuesday it is the latest Connecticut location to serve as a canvas for local artists.
In a release from BDL, the airport said that in partnership with RiseUp for Arts, five murals of considerable size are now on display in the main terminal, located past security.
RiseUp for Arts is a Connecticut-based nonprofit that works to create public art that is inclusive and accessible to anyone. The group works with a variety of artists, individuals, businesses and communities to create murals and placemaking projects throughout the state.
Last week, RiseUp for Arts announced it will bring a larger-than-life mural to the façade of the Frontier Communications building in downtown Hartford. The artwork will score many stories into the sky.

According to the release, RiseUp for Arts amplifies artists voices through multiple forms of creative expression. Since 2015, RiseUp for Arts has completed 250 murals throughout the state. The airport is the latest home to the artwork.
At Bradley International Airport, the placement of the murals is part of the BDL Art & Music Program, featuring permanent displays, rotating exhibits and musical performances in the airport.
The murals that were recently installed were painted by local artists Patrick Ganino, Micaela Levesque and Chris Gann, the release said.
“Being a long-time resident of Connecticut and a muralist in the state for over 25 years, it’s an honor to have a piece at the airport,” Ganino said in the release. “Traveling the country painting murals puts me inside Bradley Airport more times than not. It will be nice to see a piece of my art there for all to enjoy.”
The release said the inspiration for the murals comes from landscapes and imagery representing Connecticut and New England. The art is inspired by the shoreline, Old Wethersfield and Kent Falls State Park.
“I hope that travelers leave with a deeper appreciation and curiosity for what New England has to offer,” Levesque said in the release. “My goal is to inspire more people to explore Connecticut’s natural beauty and rich history.”
Gann said in the release that having his artwork displayed in an open and public space like an international airport gives it a rare platform to reach a diverse audience.
“This exposure allows my art to have a broader impact and potentially inspire and captivate people from all walks of life,” Gann said in the release. “It can spark conversations, evoke emotions and create a sense of wonder and curiosity among viewers.”
