NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — Enter Kamala Colada, the latest drink at a New Britain beverage store as part of a new round of "Presidential Pop;" soda flavors that celebrate the candidates every four years.
In soda circles, the stage was set months ago as “Trump Tonic” vs. “Biden Berry” hit the store shelves at Avery's Beverages on Corbin Avenue. All of that has changed, and, as the Biden campaign fizzled, so too did the soda flavor named for the president.
Avery’s owner Rob Metz, the mix master of the Presidential Pop flavors said, “[it's been] a wrinkle indeed, poor old Joe has gone away and we had to come up with a new flavor, so our newest flavor we are launching today is Kamala Colada."
Metz added that Kamala Colada “is a colada so we have got to have some coconut in there and it needs to be a blue soda, of course, so it’s a blueberry coconut flavor – it’s actually pretty good.”
Trump Tonic, which has been out for months, is a sour siren-red grape offering. Metz said sales of the soda have remained strong.
“We ship [these sodas] all over the country,” he said. "They are collectors’ items for so many people.”
After prepping the very first run of Kamala Colada, Metz laughed, “the message in the bottle is lighten up and have some fun – it’s a soda.”
Avery’s also introduced a white citrus None of the Above flavor earlier this year.
The Kamala Colada will be available this week. Trump Tonic, Kamala Colada, and None of the Above soda cost $2 per bottle, $12 for a six-pack. To learn more, click here.
