AVON, Conn — The Avon community is coming together to help fund surgery for a dog that was thrown from a vehicle in town Tuesday.
The Town of Avon Animal Control took in a 1-year-old Lhasa Apso, nicknamed "Amelia Airheart," who was thrown from a moving vehicle on Route 44 near Petco and Puerto Vallarta around 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The surgery to help repair the dog's broken pelvis would cost around $6,000, Animal Control said.
After asking the public for donations to Avon Pet Pantry to fund the surgery, the department said Wednesday morning that they were able to fund the surgery and that the dog will get the procedure she needs Wednesday afternoon.
Additional donations are being collected in cash or a check from the Avon Pet Pantry.
Animal Control said "Amelia Airheart" will need to go to a foster or forever home as she recovers. She will need low activity for about a month.
