OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. — A monkey was found in someone's shed in Old Saybrook on Monday evening, according to state environmental officials.
The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's EnCon Police and Old Saybrook police responded to a home in Old Saybrook after a homeowner reported finding a monkey in his shed.
The monkey is a marmoset variant, according to EnCon.
The monkey's owner came forward and helped police capture the monkey, officials said.
The monkey was not returned to its owner, since it is against Connecticut state law to possess one, EnCon said. The monkey has since been relocated to Connecticut Beardsley Zoo to care for it while officials figure out its permanent home at an approved facility.
The Zoo reminds people "to make wise, not wild, decisions" when it comes to adopting pets and that exotic and non-domestic animals, such as monkeys, are not appropriate pets and are illegal to keep as pets in Connecticut.
No injuries were reported. EnCon continues to investigate this incident.
