CHESHIRE, Conn. —
Christmas Joy filled the sidewalk at the corner of Old Towne Road and South Main Street as people came to deliver toys for children in need.
"It's very important,” said donor Donna Myjak. “It keeps the spirit of Christmas alive for all of those children.”
Donna makes it her mission to support any cause she can find.
"Whenever I see anything going on in our community, I love to support it,” said Myjak. “I'm just very happy to be here.”
This specific toy drive was organized by her dear friend Laura Squillante, the first ever toy drive she's held.
"There are so many children in need,” said Squillante. “It's really important that they are happy as well.”
The toys donated here will go to the pediatric unit of the New Haven Children's hospital, and the Women and Families Center before and after school program.
"The children at the hospital, I feel like they may get forgotten about,” said Squillante. “We just want to bring smiles and joy to those children that might not feel so well during the holidays.”
It's a cause that people care about, so much that some drive two hours from New York City give back.
"My friends Peter and Andre, I haven't seem them in almost 20 years, drove all the way from New York City to Cheshire Connecticut to drop of toys,” said Squillante. “I can't tell you how excited I am.”
Seeing all the support has Alexander Wynn from Cheshire High School wanting to volunteer even more.
“Yea this is like my first time coming out and doing a toy drive like this,” said Wynn. “I should do it more often.”
On Tuesday December 17 is when these toys will be distributed to those kids in need.
