EAST HADDAM, Conn — This holiday season, the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection invites visitors to celebrate at two historic State Park museums: Gillette Castle in East Haddam and the Osborne Homestead Museum in Derby.
“Experience the holiday spirit in our Connecticut State Parks,” said DEEP Commissioner Katie Dykes in a release. “Thanks to volunteers, these historic homes are beautifully decorated for the season.”
Gillette Castle State Park
Gillette Castle, the former home of actor William Gillette, transforms into a winter wonderland each year. Holiday Castle Tours are offered on weekends from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Christmas. Tickets are $6 for adults and $2 for children ages 6-12. Due to limited capacity, visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance.
Osborne Homestead Museum
In Derby, the Osborne Homestead Museum celebrates with an eco-friendly “Eco Holiday” theme. Volunteers decorate with sustainable materials representing global biomes, such as rainforests and deserts. Museum tours run on Thursdays through Sundays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., from Nov. 29 to Dec. 22, with special Twilight Tours on Dec. 6, 13, and 20. Admission is free, and reservations are recommended.
“These tours connect visitors to the history and cultural mission of DEEP,” said Jeremy Hall, DEEP State Parks acting director.
