Sales Tax-Free Week starts next Sunday, Aug. 18, in Connecticut

It feels like we're paying more for everything, but next week, you can pay a little less for items you might have been holding off on during Sales Tax-Free Week.

GLASTONBURY, Conn. — Sales Tax-Free Week starts in Connecticut on Sunday, Aug. 18 and continues through Saturday, Aug. 24.

Gotta Have It on Main Street in Glastonbury is a local shop!

Jeans are their specialty, but they have everything from blouses to sweaters too!

Whether shopping is for back to school or just a closet refresh, Store Associate Kathy Gallagher says, “There are plenty of options."

"We carry six of each item, and the idea is that you’re not going to bump into someone on the street wearing the same item," Gallagher said.

Financial Advisor and expert Maggie Johndrow said that the discount can make a different for your wallet.

"The National Retail Federation says that this year they expect families with children [in] elementary to high school will spend $875 on back to school, so yes, not paying 6.35% on $875 is $56 [off], so it can certainly make a difference," Johndrow said.

Johndrow said one way to save is to focus on already discounted items, and “be sure to look for coupons and other ways to save on that initial price, so you can find an item below that $100 limit."

She says now is the time for big ticket buys.

"Remember that the greater the cost of the item, the more impactful not paying tax will be, so this could be a good time for you to purchase some of those more expensive items that have been on your wish list," Johndrow said.
