2 teens shot in Bridgeport Friday night during a large house party; 20-plus rounds fired: Police

When more than 20 bullets were fired, two teens were struck, Bridgeport police said. One victim is in critical condition, while the other is shot in the foot.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A large house party within the 300 block of Bunnell Street became dangerous Friday night when two teens were shot and more than 20 rounds were fired, Bridgeport police said early Saturday afternoon.

A 15-year-old Bridgeport teen was transported to a local hospital by AMR Ambulance and is in critical condition, according to police, who said a 16-year-old Bridgeport teen was also taken to an area hospital and is suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the foot.

Police responded to the 300 block of Bunnell Street around 10:25 p.m. on Friday after receiving reports of multiple shots fired, police said. Approximately 20 minutes later, police received ShotSpotter activations within the 100 block of Sixth Street, about two city blocks from the Bunnell Street house party, according to police.

ShotSpotter is a gunshot detection system that alerts police to the location of gunfire within a minute of the shots being fired in areas it covers. Police said they received information a short time later that an individual had been shot within the 200 block of Deacon Street, about a block away from the Bunnell Street house party.

According to police, responding officers came across a large crowd in the vicinity of the 300 block of Bunnell Street and identified the 15-year-old gunshot victim on the front porch of a home located nearby within the 200 block of Deacon Street.

Officers discovered the 16-year-old victim while securing the crime scene on Deacon Street, police said, noting that he was also shot in the general area of the Bunnell Street party.

Police said that the department’s Detective Bureau has taken charge of the investigation and that crime scenes were located and secured on Bunnel Street, Deacon Street, Holly Street, and Sixth Street. The bureau’s Forensic Identification Unit has processed the scene and collected several items of evidence. Several interviews were completed, the area was canvassed, and police are continuing to document their investigation.
