NEW HAVEN, Conn. — An East Haven man convicted of two counts of second-degree sexual assault and two counts of risk to an injury to a minor was sentenced in New Haven Superior Court on Friday, according to a release from the state’s Division of Criminal Justice.
Christian Long, 36, was sentenced to 20 years in prison, execution suspended after 10 years served, and 10 years of sexual offender probation. According to prosecutors, the victims and their families were present and spoke at the sentencing hearing.
On April 3, Long pleaded guilty to the two counts of second-degree sexual assault and the two counts of risk of injury to a minor, prosecutors said.
“The factual basis of the plea included allegations that Long sexually assaulted two children under the age of 10 in Branford, East Haven and Ledyard between 2015 and 2019,” the release said.
State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Dr. expressed his gratitude in the release to the East Haven, Branford and Mashantucket Police Departments for their investigative efforts. He also thanked the Department of Children and Families and the Yale-New Haven Hospital Child Abuse Clinic for assisting with the case.
“The New Haven’s State’s Attorney’s Office is grateful for the collaborative partnership our office has with police and child welfare authorities, all dedicated to stopping these horrific acts against the most vulnerable and ensuring accountability for those who victimize our children,” Doyle, Jr. said, in the release.
