THOMPSON, Conn. — Connecticut State Police were dispatched to Brandy Hill Road in Thompson around 11:39 a.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a man walking through private backyards.
The Thompson man ran from neighbors and was suspected to have entered a residence through a basement window, according to a release from state police. Troopers from Troop D-Danielson responded with K9 Boss, and a K9 track was conducted, according to the release.
K9 Boss tracked to a residence on the road, and a building search was conducted. The accused, 36-year-old Christopher Sargent, was found hiding in a small room behind a washing machine in the basement of the residence, according to state police, who said in the arrest report that Sargent lives on Brandy Hill Road.
Sargent was commanded to come out with his hands up, and he did. A search of Sargent by state police revealed that he possessed narcotics, state police said.
Sargent was arrested and faces multiple charges. These include third-degree burglary, interfering with police and possession of a controlled substance, according to state police.
State police said that Sargent had an active arrest warrant stemming from an incident in Putnam in May; the warrant was served. He was additionally charged with first-degree criminal trespassing, sixth-degree larceny and breach of peace in the second degree.
According to state police, Sargent was released from custody on a $7,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear at Danielson Superior Court on July 18.
