ANSONIA, Conn. — Ansonia police are investigating after they say a man broke into a home and fatally shot his ex-wife before turning the gun on himself.
The incident occurred Thursday morning in a multi-family home on Westfield Avenue in the town. Upon arriving at the home, officers found Miguelina Lebron, 45, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen and Yanis Tavarez, 47, suffering a gunshot wound to the head.
Tavarez was pronounced dead at the scene. Lebron was transported to a local hospital for treatment but she later died of her injuries.
Police say their investigation indicates Tavarez, who lived in Bridgeport, forced his way into the home before the altercation began.
Two of their three children were home at the time of the altercation. One of them made the call to authorities. Police are not releasing the ages of the children but say they are teenagers. Neither of the children were injured.
Police say they had not received any calls to the residence since the family had lived there.
