BROCKTON, Mass. — A Norwich woman was shot and killed in Brockton, Massachusetts overnight and a suspect has been charged, local police said Friday.
Brockton police received a 911 call at 12:22 a.m. on Friday for a report of a shooting on Nason Street. Police then found a female victim inside a parked car suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim has been identified as Stephanie Beatty, 22, of Norwich, Connecticut, police said.
Detectives later obtained an arrest warrant for Gelson Fernandes, 29, of Brockton. He was charged with homicide.
Police said Saturday morning that Fernandes was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and taken to the hospital for his injuries.
Beatty and Fernandes were previously acquainted, police said. The circumstances leading up to the death were not immediately available.
The investigation is active by Massachusetts State Police and Brockton police.
