GREENWICH, Conn. — A man from San Francisco was arrested after he attempted to steal more than $175,000 in jewelry from Tiffany & Co. in Greenwich on Saturday, police said.
According to police, Edgardo Bautista-Gallardo, 19, entered the store in downtown Greenwich just after 3:30 p.m. and requested to see jewelry from store associates.
After the jewelry was shown, Bautista-Gallardo allegedly displayed a gun and told the store employees and the security guard that he would shoot them if he was not given the jewelry.
Bautista-Gallardo, who police said was wearing a wig and make-up, fled the store with the jewelry. The security guard followed behind and called the police.
After a brief foot pursuit, Bautista-Gallardo was arrested near the Town Hall parking lot. Police recovered the gun – which turned out to be a BB gun – as well as the stolen jewelry.
Bautista-Gallardo was charged with robbery, larceny, threatening, interfering with an officer, and breach of peace. His bond was set at $750,000.
