Arrest made following Westport Lux, Bond & Green jewelry store heist

Javon Thorbourne, 30, of Bridgeport, allegedly robbed the store in the middle of a Thursday afternoon. He was arrested on Wednesday and faces multiple charges.

WESTPORT, Conn. — Several weeks after a burglary occurred at the Lux, Bond & Green jewelry store on Main Street in Westbrook, a Bridgeport man has been arrested in connection to the heist, according to Westport police.

Javon Thorbourne, 30, was arrested on Wednesday and is facing charges of first-degree larceny, first-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, first-degree criminal mischief and first-degree conspiracy to commit criminal mischief, police said. Thorbourne allegedly is one of multiple suspects.

Police said that they responded to the store on May 9 at approximately 3:10 p.m. after employees reported two individuals wearing masks and gloves barged into the space with sledgehammers and began smashing display cases and stealing jewelry.

The employees did not interact with the suspects. They retreated to the back of the store and remained safe there, according to police.

The suspects fled the store and ran south on Elm Street before leaving in a black BMW sedan heading towards Fairfield on Post Road East, police said.

Police said the Westport Police Detective Bureau collaborated with local law enforcement and the U.S. Marshals Service to identify and build a case against Thorbourne. He was arrested at Stamford Superior Court, police said, and was held on charges from other jurisdictions.

According to police, Thorbourne was held on a $250,000 bond and set to be arraigned in Stamford Superior Court.

The Westport Police Detective Bureau is still investigating the case and said it anticipates more arrests in the future. In the release, Westport Police Chief Foti Koskinas thanked the Detective Bureau for its work on the case so far and praised area law enforcement agencies for assisting.  

“When people come into Westport with criminal activity as their intent, we will work tirelessly until arrests are made,” Koskinas said, in the release.
