NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A Windsor man in federal supervised release pleaded not guilty in New Haven federal court on Tuesday after being charged with gun and drug offenses, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Andre O. Johnson, 28, was charged with the offenses in an indictment that was returned on June 25, 2023, according to prosecutors, who said he has been detained since June 11, 2023. On that date, he was arrested by Connecticut State Police in Wethersfield on related state charges.

According to the indictment, on June 11, 2023, Johnson had a Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol, ammunition and distribution quantities of cocaine and fentanyl in his possession. In April 2022, Johnson was convicted in federal court of drug and firearm trafficking offenses, prosecutors said.

It goes against federal law for an individual previously convicted of a felony offense to have a gun or ammunition on them that moved in interstate or foreign commerce.

Prosecutors said the indictment charges Johnson with possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, which could land him in prison for up to 20 years. He is also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon, which carries a maximum prison term of 15 years.

Given that Johnson was on federal supervised release at the time of the offenses charged in the indictment, he could face additional penalties if he is found to have violated the conditions of his supervised release, prosecutors said.

The case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Explosives, state police, the Wethersfield Police Department and the West Hartford Police Department.

The prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, which brings law enforcement agencies at all levels together with the community they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence.
