BLOOMFIELD, Conn — The Bloomfield Board of Education has voted to consider terminating the superintendent's contract, after 12 years of serving the school district, according to a spokesperson from Bloomfield Public Schools.
In a brief meeting Thursday evening, board members voted to "consider termination" of Superintendent Dr. James Thompson, Jr.'s contract, according to spokesperson Stan Simpson.
At this time, the board has not provided a reason for this consideration, according to Simpson.
While Thompson was planning to retire at the end of the school year, he plans to take legal action against the board regarding its vote, Simpson said.
The Board of Education did not name a possible interim superintendent during the meeting, according to Simpson.
Thompson is "respectfully - declining comment" at this time, according to Simpson.
The school district will notify families and staff on Friday morning regarding the Board's meeting, Simpson said.
NOTE: This story has been updated to clarify that the BOE has voted to "consider termination," not terminate Thompson's contract.
