CHESHIRE, Conn. — Outrage continues in Cheshire over a now-deleted Facebook post that called students from New Haven who attend the high school “thugs.”
That anonymous user accused New Haven students of causing trouble, fights, and mischief.
In response, the Superintendent of Cheshire Schools put out an online video message to the school community to apologize for the misinformation, saying it was reprehensible.
Students at Cheshire High School said the post isn't reflective of their school community.
“It definitely was surprising and got a lot of hate towards it because that’s not something that we experience at Cheshire High School,” said Brendan Kilpatrick, a student.
It was brought up in the Board of Education meeting Thursday night, where residents gathered to talk about the hurtful post.
Students in Cheshire said although the post was hateful, it was uplifting to see how many people are coming together to denounce the message and support every student.
“Supporting each other is definitely something we do,” Kilpatrick said.
The superintendent says he continues to welcome any student in the Cheshire School District.
Twenty-two students from New Haven attend the high school as part of the state’s open-choice program.
