OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. — The search for two missing boaters following a Labor Day boat crash in the waters off Old Saybrook came to an end Friday, as the bodies of two victims were recovered.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection reports that the final victim’s body was recovered from the water around 4:30 p.m., deceased. The body of another male victim was recovered around 12:10 p.m. on Friday, deceased. The names of both men are currently being withheld.
DEEP says the State Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of each death and that the boat crash remains under investigation.
Nine people were on board when the boat hit a break wall on Monday night. Christopher Hallahan, 34, of Westbrook, was pronounced dead at the scene, and six people were rescued.
Two individuals remained missing, as local and state agencies searched for them throughout the week before their bodies were found Friday. EnCon said that difficult winds posed a challenge during the search.
