TRUMBULL, Conn. — A Trumbull woman is dead after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street over the weekend.
Trumbull officers were called to the crash scene around 7:20 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Main Street.
Police said a vehicle hit 88-year-old Margaret Gillard, who was walking across a "dimly lit" part of Church Hill Road near town hall. The vehicle then crashed into a fire hydrant and was stopped by a pole.
First responders provided medical aid to Gillard and rushed to a local hospital for her life-threatening injuries, but she was later pronounced dead.
The vehicle's driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, according to police.
Police said investigators are considering "rainy weather conditions and poor visibility" as contributing factors to the crash. No charges have currently been made.
The Trumbull Police Department and Connecticut State Police Traffic Divisions are currently investigating.
