WESTPORT, Conn. — Two pedestrians are in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle in Westport Wednesday evening, according to the town's police department.
After receiving a 911 call, Westport's police and fire departments, along with Emergency Medical Services, went to the scene of a crash involving two pedestrians that were hit at 6:45 p.m. on Imperial Avenue in the area of Post Road East, police said.
First responders provided medical treatment to the pedestrians, who were then taken to Norwalk Hospital, according to police. They are currently listed in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said.
Based on preliminary information, police said they learned that the vehicle was going north on Imperial Avenue when it veered off the road for an unknown reason and hit the pedestrians on the sidewalk.
The scene of the crash was closed off to traffic during the investigation. The Westport Police Accident Investigation Team is working with the Fairfield Police Accident Investigation Team to determine the cause of the crash.
