BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Connecticut State Police have released video of a state trooper getting hit by a car that also slammed into a parked vehicle on the side of Interstate 95 in Bridgeport.
A Jeep Grand Cherokee and a police cruiser were parked on the right shoulder of I-95 north in Bridgeport, near Exit 30 around 8:30 a.m. Monday.
The body cam video, released Friday, shows Trooper Robert Coyne walking toward the parked Jeep. As he approaches the Jeep, the camera shows a Honda Accord spinning out and hitting the guardrail before slamming into the back of the Jeep. Coyne was hit too, according to police, but was able to climb over the metal guardrail to crawl away and call for backup.
"I was just struck by a car, I'm down the embankment," Coyne was heard saying into his radio in the video.
Coyne and the Honda driver were taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The Jeep driver was not injured, state police said.
The Honda driver was issued a misdemeanor for failing to meet insurance requirements, failure to move over and failure to maintain a proper lane.
