Drowning man dies after being pulled from Pinewood Lake in Trumbull: Police

Preliminary information indicated that the drowning was accidental, according to police.

TRUMBULL, Conn — A drowning man died Wednesday after being pulled from a lake in the Nichols section of Trumbull, according to the town's police department.

William Krahe, 38, died after he was brought out of the water just after 7 p.m. and taken to Saint Vincent's Medical Center, police said.

Preliminary information indicated that the drowning was accidental, according to police.

Investigators determined that Krahe was at the lake with family members and was swimming close to a floating dock near the shoreline beach when he went underwater and "did not surface," according to police.

Lifeguards and other swimmers had searched the area but were unable to find the man, police said.

Trumbull Police Sgt. Robert Harry, who is a member of the department's dive team, along with Nichols Fire Captain John Plofkin, found Krahe at the bottom of the lake and brought him to shore in a boat, police said. Additional members of the Nichols and Trumbull Center fire departments provided medical aid while headed to the shore.

Krahe was treated on shore by the Trumbull EMS and was "immediately taken" to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
