TRUMBULL, Conn. — Connecticut State Police report that a fatal car crash happened in Trumbull on Friday morning.
A 2016 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 4matic being driven by 60-year-old Bridgeport man was travelling southbound on Route 8, prior to Exit 6.
Around 11:07 a.m., the vehicle veered suddenly into the grassy right shoulder for an unknown reason, according to state police.
The Mercedes-Benz then struck a rock wall. State police say the driver was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital with serious injuries.
The front seat passenger, 40-year-old Maria Nieves, of Bridgeport, was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Police say Nieves was pronounced dead by St. Vincent’s Medical Center Emergency Room staff.
The State of Connecticut Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Squad arrived at the scene to aid in the investigation.
State police say the crash is still under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Troop G at 203-696-2500.
