NORWALK, Conn. — A man died in a crash on Route 7 south in Norwalk Wednesday, according to Connecticut State Police.
Based on preliminary information, state police said the crash happened at 12:03 p.m. and involved a 2012 Nissan Maxima S/sv that was traveling in the left lane of three near exit 2 in Norwalk.
For an unknown reason, the Nissan drifted from the left lane, going across the other two travel lanes and the entrance #2 gore area before colliding with a metal guardrail in the right shoulder.
State police identified the driver as Fred Hunter, 80, of Wilton, who Norwalk EMS pronounced dead at the scene minutes after the crash.
The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
