BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — The Connecticut Office of Inspector General has released its preliminary report following an officer-involved shooting in Bridgeport early Saturday morning.
Police bodycam footage of the altercation that left an officer and a suspect hospitalized has also been released.
The Inspector General said that around 1 a.m. on Oct. 5, Bridgeport police officers Marie Cetti, Jesse Jimenz, Maria Canhassi, and Jahmaine Mercer were dispatched to a home on Terry Place regarding an "emotionally disturbed person."
The report noted that when the officers arrived, they encountered Huntley Jackson, a 45-year-old Black man. Officers were on the front porch of the home and spoke to Jackson, who was standing in the front doorway, according to the Inspector General.
At one point, Jackson reportedly brandished a knife, ran onto the front porch, and attacked Cetti, who was cut on her shoulder, head, and neck. According to the Inspector General, Jimenez then fired his weapon twice, striking Jackson in the torso.

Cetti and Jackson were taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital for treatment. The Inspector General says Cetti was treated and released, while Jackson underwent surgery and is now in guarded but stable condition.
Jackson was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree assault and assault on a public safety officer. His bond was set at $750,000 at arraignment.
The Inspector General says all officers who responded were wearing bodycams that were activated during the incident.

Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter said their officers are well equipped with knowledge on how to help someone in mental distress with CIT, "critical incident training."
Bridgeport officials said this isn't the first time officers were called to this home with Jackson.
"One of our officers was struck in 2022," Porter said. "I believe a medic was injured. It was a physical altercation. Obviously, when you go to a call like that, you pre-plan how you will react to a situation like that."
Porter went on to say that from his perspective, the officers "acted professionally" according to their training and showed due care for Jackson and his family.
Porter stressed that knowing what mental health resources are available is important for anyone and their family.
"If there's anyone out there who has a family member, or even they, themselves, may have some mental health issues, it's okay to get help. Please get help," Porter stressed.

The Office of Inspector General said it is investigating the incident alongside the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Squad, the Bridgeport Police Department and the Bridgeport Judicial District State’s Attorney’s Office.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the investigation remains ongoing.
