AVON, Conn. — A person is dead after a single-car crash Sunday morning in Avon, the town's police department said.
Avon police said they arrived at Old Farms Road and Tillotson Road at 3:11 a.m. for a report of a crash and found a car that was off of the road and "fully engulfed in flames."
Firefighters also responded to the scene and extinguished the fire, according to the Avon Fire Department.
Based on a preliminary investigation, police said that they determined an Acura MDX was driving at a high speed on Old Farms Road, headed west, when it went off-road and crashed into a tree.
A male driver died in the crash and was the only person in the car. Police have not identified him at this time.
The road was closed between Thompson Road and Tillotson Road by emergency crews during the crash, which has now been reopened.
Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Officer Levin at the Avon Police Department by calling 860-409-4287.
