BERLIN, Conn. — A 68-year-old man attempting to cross the Berlin Turnpike was hit and killed by a vehicle, police said Monday.
The 68-year-old man, who police identified as Charles Bach, was crossing Route 5 near the intersection of Spruce Brook Road just after 5 a.m. on Monday when a vehicle traveling north hit him, police said.
The vehicle’s driver remained at the scene and is assisting with the investigation. Weather and reduced visibility on the roadway may have been a factor in the crash, police said.
A stretch of the Berlin Turnpike had to be temporarily closed while the crash was investigated. It has since reopened.
The multi-agency MSARS Crash Reconstruction Team was called to the scene of the crash to assist with the investigation.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call Traffic Officer Thomas Bobok with the Berlin Police Department at 860-828-7080.
