BLOOMFIELD, Conn. — A woman has been charged with first-degree arson after a fire broke out at her Bloomfield apartment building early Friday morning, according to officials.
The fire started around 3 a.m. at apartments on Dorothy Drive. Officials said it began on the first floor and spread to the second. The blaze was mostly contained to two units.
Officials said 16 residents were displaced from the apartments, but most of the residents will be able to return to their units. The damage mainly affected the two units.

Bloomfield Fire Marshal Roger Nelson said a person of interest, a resident of the building, was put in custody following the incident. Bloomfield police later charged 70-year-old Maria Salas with arson in connection to the fire.
Nelson said a person was evaluated for residual smoke inhalation after it was in the air, but they were far from the incident.
Neighbors in the building reportedly woke other residents up, and everyone managed to self-evacuate from the building.
