State police looking for arsonist behind $1 million in damage to construction vehicles in Farmington

Hammonasset Construction said that the damage to the 11 total vehicles resulted in an estimated $1 million total loss, according to state police.

FARMINGTON, Conn — Connecticut State Police are looking to identify the arson suspect behind an estimated $1 million in damage to construction vehicles in Farmington.

At 10:46 a.m. on Monday, Hammonasset Construction contacted Troop H in Hartford, reporting multiple construction/work vehicles that were severely damaged sometime during the weekend.

The vehicles were parked along Interstate 84 westbound in the area of exit 39A in Farmington, according to state police.

Arriving troopers found multiple unoccupied work vehicles that were heavily damaged by fire and several other vehicles that were vandalized in a secluded construction yard off the highway, state police said.

Hammonasset Construction said that the damage to the 11 total vehicles resulted in an estimated $1 million total loss, according to state police.

The fire would likely have been visible from I-84 eastbound and westbound, the I-84 westbound exit 39A off-ramp or the Route 9 exit 40A ramp connector to I-84, state police said.

State police said anyone who heard or observed anything suspicious in the area from Oct. 12 to Oct. 13 during the overnight hours is asked to contact Det. Bria at james.bria@ct.gov or call 860-461-8610.
