EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — A suspect has surrendered to police following a standoff in an East Hartford home.
East Hartford police and other departments were called to the scene Wednesday of a barricaded suspect inside a home in the area of Prospect Street near Vine Street in the northwest portion of town.
Antwane Daniels, 24, Middletown, was charged with reckless driving and interfering with police, along with criminal attempt to assault, criminal possession of a firearm, illegal discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment and engaging police in a pursuit.
"I don’t know man, this is my first time seeing something like this in the neighborhood," said Luis Padilla of East Hartford.
Officials said the investigation began at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in Bloomfield. A caller reported to Bloomfield and Hartford police that his car had been fired upon. There were four bullet holes but no injuries. Police believe that the incident was the result of a domestic dispute and were able to piece together information about a suspect vehicle.
Around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect fled. Officers pursued the vehicle, sometimes at high speed, and the vehicle was found unoccupied in East Hartford.
K-9 officers were brought in to track the suspect.
Officers said the suspect entered a home while the residents were outside and police surrounded the house.
About 45 minutes later, the suspect left the home and surrendered to police.
"At this point, the suspect that we were looking for we have in custody and right now we are just clearing two houses just to be safe," said East Hartford Police Lt. Michael DeMaine.
FOX61 was told the owners of the home had just moved in and were taking out the trash when the suspect ran inside.
Police have not stated if any injuries were reported.
This is a developing story.
