EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — A New York man was struck and killed while on Interstate 84 in East Hartford, state police said.
The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. when a Toyota Prius was driving westbound on the highway in the HOV lane. According to police, 28-year-old Randy Casado was standing in the HOV lane directly in front of the Toyota when he was struck.
The Toyota managed to stop in the area between the HOV lane and the highway's left travel lane.
Casado, who is from Brooklyn, New York, was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
The driver of the Toyota was taken to Saint Francis Hospital with minor injuries, while the passenger in the car did not report any injuries.
Police did not say why Casado was on the highway, and they are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call Trooper Dean at 860-534-1098 or through email at michael.dean@ct.gov.
Anyone with dashcam video and who was driving through the area at the time is asked also to contact state police.
