HADDAM, Conn. — One person died and two people were hospitalized in a multi-vehicle crash in Haddam Tuesday morning, according to Connecticut State Police and the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company (HVFC).
The HVFC said they arrived at 6:30 a.m. for a report of a head-on crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of Saybrook Road and River Road.
Based on preliminary information, state police said they determined that a Ford F-150 driving north and a Honda Civic EX going south collided with each other along Saybrook Road and Route 154.
The driver of the Honda, identified as Elijah Santiago, 28, of Hamden, died of his injuries in the crash, according to state police.
The passenger and driver of the Ford were both taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
The cause and events leading up to the crash are currently unknown.
Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked by state police to contact Trooper Muckle #951 at Troop F at 860-399-2100.

Life Star had been requested for the crash but was later canceled while heading to the scene, the HVFC said.
Both lanes of Saybrook Road were closed while state police investigated the crash, but they said that it has since reopened.
