EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — A wrong-way driver was arrested after colliding with a Connecticut State Police cruiser on Route 2 in East Hartford early Sunday, state police said.
Troopers arrived onto Route 2 in East Hartford at 3:49 a.m. after receiving a report about a driver going west in the eastbound lanes.
The car going the wrong way was found in the right shoulder and hit a state police cruiser that was trying to stop it. State police said that the trooper inside the cruiser had a minor injury as a result.
Troopers stopped the car along Route 5/15, on which it was reported to be going south in the northbound lanes. The driver, 69-year-old Robert Washam, was arrested after showing signs of being intoxicated and being uncooperative with troopers, state police said.
Washam was given multiple charges, including reckless driving, disobeying signal of an officer, driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, driving the wrong way, and interfering with an officer. He is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court Monday.
