Free program offering girls opportunity to explore career in aviation to be held on Sept. 21

The program will take place at the RTFlight Hangar at Signature Aviation at Bradley International Airport from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. — A free program offering girls the opportunity to explore a career in aviation is being hosted by the Connecticut Chapter of Women in Aviation International (WAI) next month.

As part of WAI's Girls in Aviation Day on Sept. 21, the program will take place at the RTFlight Hangar at Signature Aviation at Bradley International Airport from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., a spokesperson said.

Girls from ages eight to 17 years are invited to the event, which will feature "hands-on activities" and opportunities to "hear inspirational speakers, meet women working throughout the aviation and aerospace industries and more," according to the spokesperson. More than 150 girls with chaperones are expected to attend.

“We want our local girls to see that there are exciting careers available to them as engineers, astronauts, aircraft maintenance technicians, pilots, dispatchers, air traffic controllers, and dozens of other jobs within the aviation community,” said WAI-Connecticut Chapter Girls in Aviation Day Co-Chair Chloe Tinius. “We will introduce the girls to role models and educate them in a fun and supportive atmosphere.”

This year's Girls in Aviation Day will mark the 10th annual Girls in Aviation Day event with its first in 2015. WAI chapters from around the world are participating in the event with their own programs.

“The program is free for participants and their chaperones,” added Tinius. “We want to see girls interacting with positive role models and exploring aviation as they make their career plans.”

Registration, which is required for children and chaperones, can be done on the Eventbrite listing here.
