Glastonbury police investigating attempted gunpoint robbery at Stop & Shop

Police said the attempted robbery appears to be part of a series of similar robberies across Connecticut.

GLASTONBURY, Conn. — Glastonbury police are investigating an attempted gunpoint robbery from Saturday in a Stop & Shop parking lot.

Police say that at 11:50 a.m. Saturday, officers went to the Stop & Shop at 215 Glastonbury Boulevard after they received a report about the attempted robbery.

Investigators learned that multiple suspects in a stolen car arrived at the grocery store and attempted to rob a woman at gunpoint as she was entering her car, police said.

The woman fled the vehicle and was uninjured, according to police. Nothing was stolen during the incident.

Police said the attempted robbery appears to be part of a series of similar robberies across Connecticut.

Jenna Vullo, a Stop & Shop customer, says she's never felt unsafe in the parking lot there or anywhere else around town.

"It's just going to open my eyes to be aware of my surroundings," she said. "I often have my air pods in, so I'm not really paying attention sometimes... I think it's super scary, terrifying... I come to this grocery store multiple times a week."

Other shoppers say they are surprised an attempted robbery at gunpoint happened in the parking lot of the busy business.

"Honestly, I've never heard of that," said Jessica Farrington, a Stop & Shop customer, who was shocked that the crime occurred in a town like Glastonbury.

"You think about that like in the inner cities and stuff, not in towns like Glastonbury," she said. "It can happen to anybody anywhere, so obviously, you need to be aware of your surroundings. And then, pay attention to the kids too! Because imagine if there were children there... That's just heartbreaking."

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact Officer Barrett of the Glastonbury Police Department Investigations Division at 860-652-4268.
