NORTH HAVEN, Conn. — North Haven police arrested a home invasion suspect after a child called 911, the town's police department said Saturday.
Demitrias Terrell, 44, is facing charges of home invasion, possession of a dangerous weapon, threatening in the first degree, three counts of risk of injury to a minor and criminal attempt to commit robbery in the first degree. Police held him on a $500,000 bond.
Police said they went to Avalon Haven on Sept. 27 after a child reported the home invasion involving a man in the house with a knife.
Investigators learned that the suspect, later identified as Terrell, was allegedly dressed in dark clothing, a ski mask and hand wraps commonly used in boxing. Police said he entered the home with a "large knife."
A man from inside the home grabbed an axe and confronted Terrell, according to police.
After hearing the sound of police sirens, Terrell allegedly left the home. Police searching the area later found and arrested Terrell who was exiting a nearby wooded area and had in his possession the clothes and knife that he allegedly entered the home with.
"We are thankful nobody was hurt, and for the quick action by our evening shift and minor/child caller," police said.
