CONNECTICUT, USA — Bob's Stores is closing all locations after struggling to secure finances needed to maintain the business, according to a press release Monday.
In a release, the company announced that all of its remaining locations across Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island will take part in an event to liquidate all inventory before closure on July 14.
Dave Barton, president of Bob's stores, said, "We regret that our financial position necessitated the liquidation of Bob's Stores. Bob's has been a stalwart of our local communities for nearly 70 years, and we know our customers remember us as having been there for major moments in their lives. We remain grateful to our vendors, suppliers, customers and employees for all of their support over the years."
Bob's Stores have a long history in Connecticut, originating with a single store called Bob's Surplus on Main Street in Middletown in 1954. Owner Bob Lapidus sold the chain in 1990.
"Going out of business sales" began at stores on June 28, featuring discounts between 30 to 70% off of regular retail prices through all departments, the release said.
The discounts include items such as "workwear, footwear, team wear and everyday clothing" along with "select store fixtures, furniture and equipment," according to the release.
Those who purchased gift cards and merchandise credits can have them honored until the close of business on July 14, the release said. Purchase exchanges that are allowed by company policy can also be made until the end date.
Locations in Connecticut that are impacted by the closure include:
- 409 Main St., Ansonia
- 2300 Dixwell Ave., Hamden
- 179 Pavilions Dr., Manchester
- 416 East Main St., Middletown
- 195 Cherry St., Milford
- 172 Kitts Lane, Newington
- 504 Bushy Hill Rd., Simsbury
- 835 Queen St., Southington
- 910 Wolcott, Waterbury
- 167 Parkway N., Waterford
The full list of locations including other states can be found here. The closings come after the company president informed the city of Meriden in May about a layoff that would impact about 150 jobs in its corporate office and warehouse.
