1 dead in Hartford shooting: Police

Hartford police responded to the 1000 block of Capitol Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Friday after multiple 911 calls reported a shooting.

HARTFORD, Conn. — A Hartford man has died after a shooting on Capitol Avenue Friday evening, according to police.

Hartford police responded to the 1000 block of Capitol Avenue around 7:30 p.m. after multiple 911 calls reported a shooting.

Responding officers found a gunshot victim unresponsive in the roadway.

The victim, identified by police Saturday morning as Yakpoaro Kollie, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The city's Major Crimes unit is investigating this shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Hartford police tip line at 860-722-8477.

This shooting marks the 14th homicide in the capital city for 2024, compared to 30 around this time in 2023, Lt. Aaron Boisvert told FOX61 at the scene Friday evening.
