NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — A fight involving a fatal shooting took place in New Britain Thursday morning, according to the city's police department. Two schools sheltered in place.
Shortly after 9 a.m., a call was made to police dispatch about a possible burglary on Kelsey Street. Police said that additional calls were made to responding officers about a crash that happened in the same area.
"Some sort of altercation followed where shots were fired," police said.
Officers found a man with gunshot wounds. An EMS crew attempted life-saving measures before bringing him to a local hospital where he later died, according to police.
Police identified the man as Dante Malcolm Sprouse, 25, of New Britain.
The New Britain Police Department Criminal Investigations Division is working with the New Britain State's Attorney's Office and Connecticut State Police for the investigation. Police said there is no danger to the public.
The New Britain school district said Thursday morning that Roosevelt Campus and Smith School sheltered in place during the incident.
