Hartford woman shot and killed while leaving Fourth of July Party: Family

Two shootings, one of them fatal, and a stabbing are all under investigation in Hartford.

HARTFORD, Conn. — Hartford police are investigating a series of shootings and violent acts, one of them fatal, that happened late Thursday evening into early Friday.

Police were called to 40 Cleveland Avenue at 12:50 a.m. Friday for a report of a shooting. Responding officers found a man and a woman in their 20s with injuries. The woman was not responsive at the scene and was later pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. The man was alert and conscious and was taken to an area hospital.

The family and police identified the victim as Shamyria Williams, 23, of Hartford. She was caught in the crossfire of a shooting as she was leaving a Fourth of July party, according to the family.

"My niece was so humble and innocent, smart girl, go to work every day bettering her life," Michelle Franklin, Williams' aunt told FOX61. "This was really unnecessary."

Police determined that the two shooting victims were sitting in a vehicle at the time of the shooting.

Before the fatal shooting, police were called to Hartford Hospital just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday. A private vehicle had dropped off a 19-year-old man at the hospital, who was listed in critical condition. A man in his 20s was trying to walk to the hospital when an ambulance picked him up and brought him to Hartford Hospital. Both the victims were shot while on the 100 block of Seymour Street, the investigation revealed.

Police at this time do not believe these two shootings are connected.

Lastly, around 7:15 p.m. Thursday, someone was stabbed on New Britain Ave., police said. That person is expected to be OK.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to call Hartford police at 860-722-TIPS (8477).

This is a developing story.
