HARTFORD, Conn. — A Hartford man was sentenced to 25 years in prison, with two years of special parole, for sexually assaulting a minor, according to the state's Division of Criminal Justice Wednesday.
Angel Cruz, 59, of Hartford, was found guilty by a jury in Hartford Superior Court on April 26 of sexual assault in the first degree on three counts, sexual assault in the second degree on six counts, sexual assault in the fourth degree on two counts and risk of injury to a minor on six counts.
Citing evidence from the trial, the DCJ said that the victim reported to police on Feb. 25, 2020 that she had been sexually assaulted by her mother's boyfriend, identified as Cruz, while her mother was at work.
Due to "the statute of limitations and delayed disclosure," the DCJ said that Cruz's charges were for the crimes that had taken place when the victim was between 12 and 13 years old.
